Loire a velo
This flat pretty region of France is a cyclists dream, there is smooth scenic touring between towns or you can base yourself in one of several villages and do day trips to some of the impressive local chateaux and other sights. One of the nicest things about cycling in the Loire is the magnificent and majestic river itself, it winds through the region adding the sights and sounds of a river. A wonderful green initiative was to create an unbroken cycle path from the source of the Loire to the Atlantic. This initiative is known as La Loire a Velo, (Velo is the common term for bicycle) there Are hundreds of kilometres of cycle tracks, which avoid the roads almost completely. Routes travel through the vineyards, along the Loire, past châteaux, exploring local forests, villages and historical towns
